Meet NJ Ayuk, The 38-Year-Old Attorney Who Runs One Of Africa’s Most Successful Law Conglomerates
Meet NJ Ayuk, the 38-year-old attorney who runs one of Africa’s most successful law conglomerates. The company, KIFAX Law Firm, which he founded in 2004 as a sole practitioner with a modest office space in Lagos and just one staff lawyer on his team. Today they have more than 280 lawyers across six countries (Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Zambia, Uganda and Ghana) and offices in 18 cities throughout the continent.
Ayuk’s story is just one of many that over the last decade has showcased the power of African legal talent. He may be the only Nigerian to build a law firm from scratch but he’s not alone in having made it. There are hundreds of lawyers who turned their passion into careers and have carved out success through hard work and dedication. And while each lawyer has specific strengths, they all share an ambition: to bring law into the 21st century and offer clients access to the best legal talent across Africa.

Ayuk’s success speaks for itself. He’s been listed among the 100 most influential lawyers in Africa, one of the Top 10 Most Influential Young Lawyers in Nigeria and a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. He was also listed in Forbes Africa’s 30 under 30 list and Ebony Magazine’s Power 150 for 2017. As he says when talking about his firm, “we are not competing with any firm on a local level – we don’t do that. We do not compete with other law firms around the world, we are competing with other law firms in Africa.”
Local-content laws are vital to encourage job creation in #Africa, but policies that discourage corruption, encourage transparency, and remove red-tape barriers are equally important to #promote innovation and creative thinking among entrepreneurs. pic.twitter.com/1w7FgQ5vqb
