Kelcy Warren
Kelcy Warren In Brief
Kelcy Warren is the CEO and chairman of the Board of Directors at Energy Transfer LP. He was born in a small town in Texas called Gladewater. His father earned a living by doing manual jobs like digging ditches before he was promoted to field clerk by Sun Oil Company. Warren has great admiration for him. Although he was not very rich, he lived a simple life and was committed to his family. Warren’s mother was born in Louisiana and worked in a department store. Although she never finished her secondary education, she pushed her children to get an education.
Warren’s family was religious. They attended Baptist church services regularly. This background instilled critical virtues in young Kelcy Warren. They were also members of the Boy Scouts. His father was a Scoutmaster, and his mother was once a den leader.
Kelcy Warren grew up seeing his parents struggle financially. They worked extra jobs to support the family. These included running a trailer park and distributing newspapers. Warren began doing odd jobs at a young age. His father always urged him to work hard and save money. Kelcy Warren mainly worked in the oil field.
Warren was a bright student. Acting on his high school counselor’s advice, he enrolled for a civil engineering degree. He was mainly motivated by money. Within the first year of his studies at UTA however, he dropped out. He went back home, where he paid his dues, working with his father and attending night classes. UTA eventually reenrolled him, and he did well this time.
While at studying at the university, Warren participated in a research program sponsored by the National Science Foundation. He won an award for his research on methane gas. After completing his degree in 1978, Warren entered the workforce. His first company was Lone Star Gas Company. Later he co-founded Energy Transfer.
Warren views success more like a journey one needs to pursue daily. Though he has a strong work ethic, he advises young people to balance between life and work. See this page for more information.
