Kelcy Warren: Fueling Growth in Energy Engineering
Kelcy Warren, a prominent alumnus of The University of Texas at Arlington and a leader in the energy sector, has
recently made a significant contribution to his alma mater. This commitment
from Warren has positioned the university at the forefront of the resource and
energy engineering field.
The benefaction by Kelcy Warren, amounting to a staggering $12 million, marks the largest
philanthropic investment in the history of the university. The funds will be
dedicated to establishing the Resource and Energy Engineering (REE) bachelor’s
degree program, a pioneering course in its domain.
Kelcy Warren’s investment will underpin faculty recruitment, research
excellence, and provide students with unparalleled opportunities to excel in
resource and energy engineering. Warren, a holder of a ’78 BS degree in Civil
Engineering from the university, expressed his honor in giving back to the
institution that shaped his professional path.
Under this transformative gift from Kelcy Warren, UTA will
establish three endowed REE academic positions, a state-of-the-art REE
laboratory, and a career experience center. Moreover, scholarships and research
experiences for undergraduate engineering students will also be funded under
his generous donation. The beneficiaries of the scholarships and fellowships
will be aptly named Warren Scholars and Warren Fellows, respectively, in honor
of Kelcy Warren’s philanthropic spirit.
It’s worth noting that the REE bachelor’s degree program, scheduled to launch in fall 2023, will
be the first of its kind in the U.S. This program, backed by Warren’s
substantial investment, aims to prime students in applying engineering
principles to energy generation, storage, conversion, and distribution systems.
Kelcy Warren’s timely contribution is a testament to his dedication to fostering the next
generation of energy engineers. His strategic philanthropy will certainly play
a pivotal role in shaping the future of energy engineering at UTA and across
the nation. Read this article for more information.
