Justin Fulcher’s Seven-Year Journey Produced a 50-Country Platform
Justin Fulcher left Clemson University after a year, flew to Southeast Asia with a three-month plan, and did not come back for seven. During that time, he built RingMD, a telehealth company that would eventually reach more than fifty countries and connect patients to healthcare on three continents. He had been coding since childhood, launched a business in high school, and arrived in Asia looking for problems worth solving. What he found in Jakarta set the direction for the rest of his career: a man drinking contaminated water from the ground while holding a smartphone. The phone existed. The healthcare did not.
Building in Singapore, Selling from Boston
Fulcher incorporated RingMD in Singapore in 2013, choosing the city-state for its regulatory environment and its proximity to the markets that mattered India, Indonesia, and the broader Southeast Asian region. The platform was built to work in environments where infrastructure was unreliable and bandwidth was limited. A partnership with PROVision Partners International extended it to the hotel and cruise industries at low per-traveler costs. In 2018, Justin Fulcher sold a majority stake and managed the transition of headquarters from Singapore to Boston. The US relaunch in 2019 pivoted toward institutional and government clients, a shift that proved well-timed.
The Decade’s Outcome
When COVID-19 arrived, Justin Fulcher made the platform available free to healthcare providers worldwide, describing the moment as one that had forced the hand of an entire industry. The federal compliance certifications the company had earned FedRAMP Moderate, FISMA, and HIPAA enabled contracts with government programs including India’s Digital India initiative and the US Indian Health Service, which served roughly 2.6 million American-Indian and Alaska Native individuals across 37 states. Fulcher stepped back from RingMD in January 2025, leaving a platform with 1.5 million patient records, 10,000 healthcare providers, and operations on three continents.
