The Colcom Foundation Supports Important National Issues

The Colcom Foundation was the brainchild of Cordelia S. May. She founded Colcom Foundation in 1996 and was further substantially funded after her passing in 2005.

Ms. May was an uncompromising supporter of family planning and her concern for quality-of-life issues was behind the creation of the Foundation. Also among Cordelia May’s concern was overpopulation and the Foundation addresses the results of that on the natural world.

Because Cordelia S. May believed in the dignity of mankind, and compassion for all, the Foundation seeks to honor her legacy with its grants.

Colcom Foundation’s giving program addresses family planning through its Population Media Center. They use the mass media and entertainment-based efforts to influence the cause of unplanned and unwanted births throughout the world.

Colcom Foundation is also concerned with immigration issues. Through their funding they try to encourage conversations about the immigration issue. They propose to decrease immigration to control the population of the United States. They do this to decrease the ecological footprint of our country and its effect on saving the natural environment here.

Other funding interest of the Foundation are related to the local area of southwestern Pennsylvania. They seek to provide funding in the following counties of the state: Westmoreland, Washington, Somerset, Lawrence, Indiana, Greene, Fayette, Cambria, Butler, Blair, Beaver, and Allegheny.

With their efforts regarding conservation, it supports a group called Rail Pollution Protection Pittsburgh (RP3). This group works to lessen the negative result of over proliferation of rail lines to support urban health issues, the wellbeing of people living in the area and its sustainability.

The Foundation also grants funds to the National Aviary. This organization is home to over 500 birds including 150 different species from around the globe. The Foundation supports a number of other ecological organizations in the area. Refer to this page for related information.
