Raffaele Riva
Raffaele Riva is an avid stamp collector and writes numerous articles in philatelic magazines. He was named an Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in 1982 for his contributions to sports and civil society. He is the founder of AUREA Multi Family Office which was established in 2008.
Raffaele Riva was born on 28th December 1942 in Lucca to a family with a long history of philatelic interest. Raffaele Riva was born into an extended family of which his father, Giuseppe Riva, was the official stamp dealer of the city of Lucca from its inception in 1881 to 1973 and served as president of the FIPJ (Federazione Italiana Philatelisti Junior).
Raffaele Riva attended elementary school where he excelled at sports and graduated. with honors from high school. He credits his father for his interest in philately. At a very young age, Raffaele’s father gave him some stamps from the collection to play with and, in turn, he started to put stamps on envelopes and collect them.
He married Marisa in 1966, and together they have four children, Raffaele, Giuseppe, Maria and Alberto. Raffaele Riva has been a member of an Italian Stamp Club since the 1950s and is a regular competitor in philatelic expositions. His most notable achievement was winning the gold medal at the Olympia Expo of 1968 with his collection of Portuguese stamps with the theme “The Unknown Man”, which had been on display at the Postal Museum.
He is also an avid collector and enthusiast of postage stamps from Portugal as well as Spain, Turkey and Monaco. Raffaele Riva is also considered an expert in the history of Lucca and has compiled a book about the city. He was awarded with the title Officer of Merit of the Italian Republic in 1982 for his contributions to sports and civil society.
