Akeem Jamal is an assistant vice president and director of communications at Roosevelt Island, a small island in the East River between Manhattan and Queens. As a communications specialist at Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation, Akeem helped develop and implement the island’s communications strategy. He worked closely with the media, government officials, and community leaders to promote positive stories about the island.

Education

Akeem has a master’s degree in business administration from Pace University and a Bachelor’s degree in communication and media service from Fordham University. He also has a Graduate Certificate in associate of art and science from SUNY Westchester Community College.

Membership and Volunteer

Akeem is a member of the National Association of Government Communicators, and he has served on the Board of Directors for Richmond Community Services, which provides support to disabled children. He is also a member of the Yonkers Police Reform Committee and the Mayor’s Liaison for the Muslim American Advisory Council.

Political communication: Akeem worked as an executive assistant to the mayor of Yonkers. He helped manage his social media presence and was responsible for his website, email newsletters, and other communications tools.

Political campaign management: He was the campaign manager of Mike Spano in 2019, who was vying for the position of mayor at the city of Yonkers
