Alliance Defending Freedom recap

Alliance Defending Freedom is a legal advocacy and educational organization dedicated to protecting the right of people to live out their faith freely. They fight against religious persecution by getting governments to enact and enforce laws that protect your freedoms. They work on several issues, but they have been leading the fight for religious liberty and freedom because they have an exceptional understanding of what it means, both legally and in practice.

ADF has been in operation since 1994 and is an outreach ministry of the Alliance Defense Fund, a Christian legal organization. Its mission is to defend America’s freedom and constitutional heritage while advancing the cause of religious liberty in America – not only for Christians but all people of faith.

The organization has won over 80 percent of its cases; since 2011, it has won over 18 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. It has offices in Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, and Washington, D.C., and an allied attorney network extending to over 3,000 attorneys nationwide who provide legal assistance pro-bono basis.

The organization advocates for the following:

  1. Freedom of speech

The institution fights for freedom of speech, especially religious freedom, and it protects individuals’ ability to express their religious beliefs.

  1. Freedom of religion

For them, freedom of religion does not mean that government cannot promote religion, but it does mean that government cannot promote a specific denomination or religion. The organization ensures that government does not take sides in religious disputes.

  1. Sanctity of Human Life

Alliance Defending Freedom advocates for the sanctity of human life from conception until natural death, thereby protecting human dignity and the right to life. They also fight against abortion, euthanasia, and assisted suicide.

  1. Parents’ rights

They advocate for the rights of parents—especially the right to raise their children according to their beliefs and heritage. This includes the right to homeschool and sends their children to religious schools.

  1. International Work

When international conflicts arise over religious freedom and human rights, ADF plays an active role in helping to resolve them. ADF also works within the U.S. government to ensure that laws promote religious liberty and protect international treaties that are already in place. See this page for more information.
